Live Chalk Art

This season has kicked off with a lot of art events! There have been two events bringing in chalk art and artist to give a fun flare into their festivities. I have been adding to my art services for live art entertainment. Chalk art is one art service being added!

Chalk art is great for smooth concrete surfaces like streets and sidewalks. People can literally walk into the artwork! It’s great for outdoor events that don’t have a space for permanent paintings. The chalk stays as long as it doesn’t rain.

My first art medium I loved to create with was pencil. I’ve used all forms of drawing mediums in my art. I enjoyed getting back into just focusing on dry media. It does bring a slight challenge, which I personally love a good creative challenge. You’re working against outside elements. I may be sitting directly in the sun on a hot summer day or crossing my fingers for no rain! Drawing on such a large scale on the ground isn’t the best for your back. I have done some research and found some tools I plan to DIY to help decrease strain on my back and cover more surface area.

I enjoy talking and taking pictures with event attendees who are digging your artwork. I hope to do more interactive works where guests can use it as a photo prop or literally stand in it and be the art! I’ve been inspired by some great 3D chalk artist works!

Street chalk art doesn’t have to be for the professionals. I have taught some kid chalk art lessons where we experimented with wet chalk or wet surfaces then using chalk. No matter your age, you’ll find some creative therapy.

Find a space and create!
